ABOUT ME....Born in Tuskegee and raised in New Jersey, I have been a full time artist for over 25 years, following a 20 year career in the urban transit and planning field in Boston, Los Angeles and Portland, OR. Over the course of my art career I have been a muralist, arts program contractor and arts instructor, in addition to showing my work in numerous exhibitions on both the east and west coasts. I currently reside and maintain a studio in the Washington, DC area and continue to teach for the Smithsonian Studio Arts Program, The Art League (Torpedo Factory) in Alexandria, VA., and Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Hyattsville, MD, as well as offering personalized instruction in my studio.

My Vision..... The primary inspiration for my art is creating a visual expression of the elements of life that connect us as human beings. Most of my work incorporates some representational component as a way for the viewer to identify and engage with the piece. I am most drawn to themes addressing cultural integration--how we define ourselves in relation to others, and biases that cause misunderstanding. I often use cultural motifs, symbols, text, and related representations of ethnic, religious, racial and other forms of social identity in an attempt to weave visual stories of the complexities of our collective existence. None of us can claim to be pure anything – we are only the latest version of millennia of mixing, matching, migrating, and mingling. I layer materials both literally and figuratively, often with metallic elements, to provide dimension and reflect light. This approach allows me to construct a visual interpretation of the richness of the fabric of life.
